The point of this 12 part report is to help you streamline your approach to SEO and clear up some of the confusion regarding search engine optimization. With the information in this report, you can zoom past others in your niche and save precious time on your marketing efforts.

As you know, search engine optimization is an important part of any marketing business. Without search engine optimization, your website will be floating out in the massive collection of websites out there without being found. Since search engine optimization is so important, it’s definitely a topic of interest for many marketers. The only problem is that the frenzy over getting search engine optimization right has resulted in a lot of misinformation.

In this report, we’ll cover twelve additional myths that exist about SEO. These twelve myths are so pervasive that you may be one of the many out there who believe they are true.

Don’t be fooled! By debunking these myths, and applying my suggested variations, you can save yourself a lot of time and energy. Nothing is worse than taking a bunch of steps that you think are going to help only to have them be useless, or worse, they can hurt your search engine ranking. Let’s get started!

Myth#1 – Posting Comments on Big Traffic Blogs will Help Your Search Engine Ranking

This is a common myth that is fed to new website owners as a quick way to get backlinks and traffic. If you’ve got a new site, the best thing to do is to find a lot of related blogs and post comments, right? Wrong. Most, if not all, blogs have nofollow tags within their code. Nofollow tags will stop the page rank and SEO from one blog from going into the other.

This means that any traffic that you are expecting to get from commenting on a related blog post just won’t show up. Google doesn’t follow nofollow tags, so the link in your comment will be completely ignored from the view of the search engine. You won’t get any “Google juice” from a related blog if it has nofollow tags.

In addition to nofollow tags, the other main problem with posting comments in order to get trackback traffic is that you have to be really careful about what you post. If your post is considered to be too spammy and self serving, the blog author will most likely delete the comment – meaning that you just wasted your time!

It can be difficult to come up with ideas for insightful blog comments, especially if you are attempting to comment on many blogs that day. You need to make your comments relevant to the blog post, which means that you’ll need to actually read each and every blog post you want to make comments on.

This brings us to another important point – time. When you are trying to use blog commenting as an SEO strategy, you’ll want to post on as many related blogs as possible. But in order to not get your comments deleted, you’ll have to read the blog posts and take time to craft a relevant comment. You’re looking at hours of work each day for something that may or may not work!

If you’re thinking that you can get away with using a trackback building program to quickly get blog comments out there on blogs without nofollow links, think again. Search engines and blog creators are onto these forms of traffic building. You may be penalized by Google if you all of a sudden have 500 backlinks to your site within a matter of a few days.

On top of that, Wordpress has a plugin that will tap into global commenting systems and check for spam. You can see how using a trackback building program can be a detriment to your search engine ranking.

So what does this mean for blog commenting? In some cases, it can help, but you shouldn’t rely on it for your sole method of traffic building. If you want to put this method to work for you, you need to find blogs without no-follow tags. This way you may get some traffic boost by having a backlink on that blog. If your comment is insightful and original, you may get some manual clickthroughs from your link within the blog post.

An even better strategy for getting backlinks from related blogs is to find blogs that accept guest posts. You can write a quality guest post for a related blog and get the benefit of a backlink and some publicity.

The power of making money on the internet begins with understanding the basic business model and using it effectively. Whether you offer an online or offline product or service, the model is the same. The two key factors of this business model are having a website with a sales page, and more importantly driving traffic to that website. Anyone can build or buy a website, but using keyword optimization that will get a website seen by potential buyers is the secret to online success.

Traffic is essential to sales, the more traffic you receive the more people you can reach via the internet. There are effective ways to generate more traffic by getting organic listings and cut the cost of advertising with PPC. You must understand how the search engines think and what their spiders love to improve your  marketing with SEO

The most important key to on-site SEO is your blog title, and your keywords.  Knowing the words and phrases people enter into the Google search bar and how to use them is the trick. There are free keyword tools and tactics that will help you to get first page results in a Google search, it seems they are being used ineffectively or not at all.

Over 80% of websites are optimized for the wrong keywords. Doing proper keyword research and then choosing the best keyword phrases will make the difference in getting found or being lost amid the billions of websites online.  The biggest mistakes are using keywords that are extremely competitive, using too many keywords, and not using them in the titles of you websites, blog posts, or articles.

SEO experts recommend starting with a free keyword suggestion tool to give you a broad idea of the words and phrases actually being searched for. Then, methodically input them into a keyword difficulty tool that will give you an idea of how easy it will be to get ranked for that keyword.

Choosing the most popular keywords will work great for expensive pay per click advertising but will take an incredible amount of time and effort to show up in an organic search. It may be a challenge but finding keyword phrases that have good search volume and a low level of difficulty will be worth the effort. Good keyword phrases can make you a lot of money.

Use your keywords in the title of your website and blog posts. It is also important to use these same phrases in the anchor text of your articles. Optimizing your website effectively will improve traffic to your pages. Converting that traffic to sales may take some testing and tracking. Having a beautiful website alone will not create sales.

Over and over I see very nice websites that are using keyword optimization but are missing a call to action for the reader. These websites are full of information about the company product, which is fine, but without effectively leading the reader through a sales funnel they will fail to generate a high level of income. Putting all this together requires the time, know how, and patience.

Flat rate SEO services are a scam! Many big organizations sell no-value SEO services that allure SEO buyers with the prospect of free traffic and that free price-point sets their anchoring for the price. Further their first introduction to SEO comes from non-SEO. Many web hosts, domain registrars, clueless web designers (who talk up web standards but do no actual SEO research), and sleazy telemarketers offer low priced flat rate packages that have no value. Some of the domain registrars and web hosts run on such thin margins that they would be bankrupt without selling stuff like the scammy bolt on no value SEO packages. To highlight such scams I created dollarseo.com to show how they did not work.

Some Markets Are Competitive & Expensive Anyone who is selling flat rate SEO services is selling a service priced without exploring the market and learning how competitive it is. Ranking well for credit cards might be worth millions of dollars. But it might also cost that much to rank. Ranking for Salem, Oregon bus rental is far easier and can be done using less than 1% of the capital investment.

Worse yet (for the consumer of a flat rate SEO service), SEO is a winner take most market. Most people click on the first page of the search results, with most those clicks happening on the top few listings. So lets say one of the flat rate companies was surprisingly not a scam and actually gave a crap about your business. This is doubtful in most cases, but lets just consider it. Well if they under-price the flat rate and rank you on page 2 or 3 you still are not going to get very much traffic, and (in spite of them trying their best on limited resources) you still probably lost money because page 3 of the search results = fail.

Is Google Flat Rate?

And here is another way of looking at it. Google AdWords doesn’t sell their keywords for a flat rate. The words live in an auction that rises and falls with consumer demand. At the same time, advertisers who are paying Google over $10,000,000,000 a year are starting to put some of that budget into organic SEO. With the average SEO employee earning roughly $80,000 a year it is hard to believe that an outsourced discount flat rate package can compete.

Flat Rate Dream Homes Located in _____ for Only $5,000 I am not sure who came up with this analogy. I think it was Danny Sullivan (he is always great with those), but how many contractors do flat rate home building? Probably 0 legitimate ones. Everything is important from the foundation, to the number of rooms, to the materials used, and any special requests need to be considered.

Knowing if the house is on the side of the mountain, if it needs rocks cleared away, if it is in a swamp and could sink is important. Likewise legitimate SEO consulting aims to know the direction of the market, understand the brand, evaluate domain name selection, survey the market, and assess strengths and weaknesses.

Only AFTER all that work has been done to establish a foundation then you have to establish a well researched market strategy and keyword strategy. Then you need to do push marketing and other forms of marketing to build links. You might need to build 100 or 100,000 to compete. No matter how perfect your site is optimized, you generally are not going to rank for competitive keywords until AFTER some link building has been done. On-page optimization has a glass ceiling.

Rarely, if ever, do flat rate SEO service providers build quality links. And if the do buy them, then it is generally to some prescribed generic schedule rather than a specific plan catered to your market and your website. And while the provider is stuck working within that flat rate someone else is subscribing to sites like this one, learning SEO, and aggressively reinvesting their profits to further build a competitive advantage.

It is very hard for an outsourced discount service to compete with a self-interested business owner. In the markets worth being in, pre-defined flat rate SEO rarely gets it done.
